The life of a woman is arduous—marked by struggle and complexities. Living the life of a woman in this toxic society is complicated. Woman usually suffer from different circumstances that can affect their mental well-being.
The real struggle of a woman starts from childhood. During this age period, she encounters different forms of discrimination. She is often ignored at the alter of her brothers and parents. The outside world is barred with restrictions. Girls are discouraged from sports and other outdoor activities. She cannot pursue certain hobbies which are considered for boys or felt too ‘boyish’.
Similarly in their early education, girls also face numerous hurdles. For instance, in conservative families boys are more prioritized for schooling over girls. Girls are compelled to pursue medical fields as career profession instead of their genuine interest. During school days, many girls face verbal or physical harassment sometimes leading parents to withdraw them from the school—putting a full stop to their education.
Not only in education, women are also insecure when they step out of their home. When a woman goes out, she encounters differing gaze—making her insecure and vulnerable. Almost every woman has faced this situation. I have often faced this situation when I go out alone. Not a single day has passed, I have not come across comments from some men; it seems that some men feel joy and pleasure in demeaning women.
In every circumstance, woman must be strong and confident. When faced with harassment, she should confront it with courage in order to defend her dignity and respect. There will always be those who choose to defame woman through their derogatory remarks, women have to be empowered to recognize and embrace their strength. Many women inherently great power, they fail to recognise the extent of their strength.
Moreover, most women perceive themselves mentally and physically weak, but they often underestimate their capabilities. They fail to recognize that managing various responsibilities is far from effortless, yet women are capable of handling them with remarkable composure. It is an undeniable fact that men are physically stronger than women, it is imperative for women to cultivate their physical strength through sports and exercise. Every women should be equipped with enough strength and capabilities to act decisively in her self-defence.
It is a misguided believe for women to alter herself and dress poorly when going out. Why should a woman forgo in presenting herself with care and confidence in order to appease the opinion of men? Every woman should follow what she thinks is right and brings her true happiness without compromising her identity and reshaping herself for the ease of others.
Women are natural multitaskers. They can manage the every need of their children, parents, partners, in-laws, and others; still, face these challenges with a brave smile on their face. Apart from these, a woman endures physical pain and agony in shape of menstrual cramps and labour pains, yet still she heals herself and resumes caring for everyone around the corner. Despite the resilience and selflessness, woman is blamed by society, even by her family, for the circumstances that are beyond her control.
A woman can’t live her life by her own choice. As an unmarried woman, she has to live her life according to her father’s and brother’s choice. After marriage, she has to live her life according to her husband’s choice. However, she never complains or misbehaves with any of them.
Why should women always endure suffering? Why should women always sacrifice their happiness for the sake of others? Every woman must recognise her power and strength and be able to face every injustice confidently. Women must avoid toxic men along with their derogatory comments. There comes a point when silence is no longer an option and accepted. When an individual crosses the limit with unacceptable remarks, every woman has the right, and responsibility, to take action against them. Every woman must recognise their strength and stand up against any kind of harassment. To all woman, resist, unite, and live!
