This is not a simple thing; we are not ignoring it. As robots slowly change, their inventors, human, will inevitably be changed, and AI would be the new masters. In order to understand the dark reality of AI, it must be clear what is AI. Artificial Intelligence is a human creation, yes human creation. One thing is evident, we are not changing AI, but AI is changing us.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the ability of machines and super-computing machines that can think just like humans. They are able to do so from advance computing mechanics designed in a particular way. It helps them to learn from experience, solve problems, and make decisions. AI was first introduced by a group of scientists in 1956 at a conference at Dartmouth College, USA.
Every sweet has its source; every evil has its good.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Everything has its two sides: good and bad. AI, as illustrated by the above quote, has both sides.
Talking about the advantages of AI, there are many. For instance, AI has made it more easier and convenient. Doing things quickly and comfortably with the diversity of its knowledge, it helps us with our tasks and works. But it’s changing now; it’s moving towards evilness, as is the current trend. There are some common problems, such as people becoming more lethargic, creativity decreasing, people being dependent upon AI, and AI replacing many jobs. But the worst comes when AI becomes more realistic. Yes, you get it right, I was talking about the fake videos, photos, and even the voices of people, which lead to cybercrime and harassment.
There are numerous instances of fake AI videos, photos, and audios. They are created by specific apps and software that make people do things that aren’t real. Many people use audio to make a person’s voice copy and use it for illegal purposes. This can also be known as Deepfake. In early 2024, thousands of voters got robocalls (calls by robot) that used a deepfake voice sounding like the president discouraging them from voting. In 2019, thieves used the deepfake voice of a UK energy firm CEO to arrange the transfer of €220,000 into an external account. Many of the influencers pictured were used illegally for illegal purposes. They did this just for some followers.
“One may smile and smile but still be a villain.”
The above cases illustrate the evolution of AI. Many people find this helpful, but remember, there is always something behind a mirror. Using anyone else’s voice or photo for your purpose is also ethically and legally incorrect. Not just this, AI is becoming increasingly dangerous by the day. AI creates unrealistic images that don’t even exist. We don’t focus on it, but our single data is stored in the memory of AI chatbots. There is one game known as ‘Turing Test‘. In this game, a human needs to differentiate between a robot’s writing and a human’s writing. They also get a prize. But, till now, no one had ever won it. This is not just a game, but evidence of how realistic robots are. It is enough to tell how dangerous AI is. Don’t take AI as a fool or a game.
Because you are not playing with AI, AI is playing with you. In other terms, it is not fully bad. We can use AI for many good purposes. However, these types of deepfakes shouldn’t be used for malicious purposes; instead, they should be used for good, to bring a smile to someone’s face, not to cause them to cry. It’s also based on the people for whom they use it. AI has made our lives easier than before.
In conclusion, AI is dangerous. But we made it unsafe. We should all use it for good purposes. Humans should do the task themselves instead of being heavily dependent on AI. Human should be creative. More importantly, AI should be used as an avenue for learning something new, to gain new knowledge, and stay informed.
Stay positive, creative, and independent.
