The Power Your Subconscious Mind is written by Dr. Joseph Murphy. In the book, Murphy discusses themes like how our inner thoughts shape our external reality. He was an Irish author and known for his works on subconscious mind.
He left the seminary to explore new ideas and experiences. Eventually moving to the United States, he became a pharmacist in New York City, having a degree in chemistry. During World War II, he served as a pharmacist in the Army. Murphy became involved with New Thought movements, including Religious Science and Divine Science. He studied various world religions, including Eastern religions, spending time in India and becoming a scholar of the I-Ching. He earned a PhD in psychology from the University of Southern California.
Murphy had a daily popular radio program. His famous work, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind, was published in 1963 which became an international bestseller and continues to be widely read.
Dr. Joseph Murphy believes that there is a power beneath our mind that examines everything, including our experiences and daily routine actions, and that manifests everything. Whereas, he says that we are not only ungrateful to Almighty Allah, but also to ourselves. Almighty Allah has granted us soul, life, water, air and the powerful weapon “Wisdom”, yet we are unthankful. But why is an individual unappreciative of himself? Whatever he does or has yet is the same. If the whole world were given beneath their feet, humans would be human. And the greed that all the world has till the grave will be pursued.
Making ourselves accountable for all our omissions to Almighty Allah does not change anything. Life is a gift from him, and there are two directions: the boon and the ban, and if we follow good, good comes, and if we follow bad, bad follows. There comes a time when we are full of sins, and when our fate changes a little bit, “Allah, there were so many people in the world, but you have chosen only me for the punishment”. Notwithstanding, every individual is God-gifted, but fails to recognize it. These gifts are inside us. We have never thought about analyzing them. Skills, talents, and hidden secrets are the auspicious awards from Almighty Allah; an inventor, a player, a confident man, a hilarious person who can bring entertainment to the gloomy faces and so on.
What is prosperity? Who is a successful man on this globe? The actual acquisition is not in money, but in the mind. A tiny thought can bring joyous and numerous happiness. A great saying goes in this way: “Success means successful living. When you are peaceful, happy, joyous, and doing what you love to do, you are successful.” Having a regular cup of black tea is better than having an expensive coffee that is full of trouble. If you own a hut and you are happy with it, that is the real happiness in this world. When we see others with their fancy buildings, cars, and bank balances, we envy them. Yet, we destroy our tiny transportation, and we are on the roads.
The same little things can bring you world peace, especially when we hold positive thoughts.
Moreover, “it is well to remember that no two human beings ever lived beneath the same roof without clashes of temperament, period of hurt and strain.” A wife has numerous quarrels with her husband, and she shares her complaints with the wrong person: her neighbour. Selecting an inappropriate person for sharing or advising would significantly impact a husband’s reputation. It is indispensable to pursue or search for a tutor, adviser or a well-experienced person who can show you the right way to solve the dilemma. Listening to every individual ultimately leads to your subconscious mind. Because not every individual’s words can be followed.
Forgiving others would bring inner peace. As Almighty declares, “is there anyone whom I can forgive for all his sins which were done to make me furious, yet I am the most kind God in the world, ready to forgive.” But as human beings, we lack actness, and as a result, we harm ourselves. We put all our efforts into making the person who has wronged us our enemy; the same person used to be your companion, best colleague, beloved friend, and comrade, and today he is your biggest enemy. This is all because the word “Forgive” has never been used between us.
What is fear? Fear is neither water, knife, fire, heights, nor swimming. Fear is a negative thought or a contemplation in our minds. With the same knife people use to cut and prepare their meals, fire is used to cook delicious food, and water is a significant part of our lives. However, the same fire can burn millions of people if it is misused. So, the word “fear” is merely an idea that we have generated by ourselves. At the same time, every problem has an alternative in this world. Go deep into the water and say, “I am going to master you,” say it with a strong and louder voice until you feel it. Jescika was a singer; whenever she appeared on the stage, she forgot everything. She approached a teacher and explained everything in detail. The second day, she went to her room before singing. She repeated these words, “I sing beautifully, my voice is so attractive,” and for three days she applied it. On the day of the program, she appeared on stage and performed amusingly.
When you say you cannot, the word “No” goes to your subconscious mind, and it alters into a negative. The phrase “life is boring” is just a rumination; you just need to bring positivity into your mind. Look at the atmosphere, see the blue sky, observe the skyscrapers and the mountain, and feel the waves of water. Life has never been boring, but you’ve made it boring too. You are also bored with dead thoughts. Bring some jubilant thoughts. Eventually, these opinions in your subconscious mind would make you suffer from infinite diseases. A lot of stress, accompanied by feelings of sorrow and the words “I am worn out,” can lead to a lot of suffering. Although it evolves into superstations and originates from there, the process is very complicated.
Your subconscious mind is more powerful than a machine. When you want to get up for Thajid or an exam preparation, you do not need to set an alarm clock, because your subconscious mind will automatically wake you up. And if someone has such an intensive ambition that it would be accomplished. Finally, appreciate yourself; neither your teachers, best friends, colleagues, nor your parents are with you all the time to admire you. You have to create a world of positive thoughts and learn how to treat yourself after you prosper. Having strong beliefs in yourself, as well as Almighty, and see how everything changes—just like a twinkling star in the sky.
