This book is written by a Brazilian author Paulo Coelho. It was published in 1988 and has been translated into 59 languages. Paulo Coelho is a storyteller who can inspire nations and change people’s lives. This book’s central theme is to listen to our hearts and follow our dreams.
This fiction novel is about an Andalusian boy Santiago. He loves traveling, so he becomes a shepherd to visit worldwide. While traveling several times, he dreams about the treasure under the Pyramid of Egypt. To interpret the dream, he goes to Tarifa, where he meets the king of Selma, who offers him two magic stones, one white stone and one black stone; he also calls them Urim and Thummim, by which he would be able to understand the language of nature. Following his dreams, he goes on a long journey. In this journey, he faces a lot of hardships and challenges, but he never gives up, and he meets new people with new experiences, such as the language of the desert, wind, sun, and the soul of the world that makes him the true Alchemist. He goes to the desert of Egypt, where he meets an English man who tells him about an Alchemist that transfers metal into gold and the gorgeous girl Fatima with whom he married. He ultimately gets to learn various things.
The Alchemist is one of the most enthusiastic and exciting books I have ever read. It entirely surprised me while reading. It inspires the readers to follow their dreams. I love how the author has developed such quotes on every single page. The most favorite quotes of mine are :
” There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”
” Remember that where ever your heart is there, you will find your treasure.”
Overall, the Alchemist is a beautiful book. I recommend it to all readers, specifically those who love traveling, because it inspires or motivates readers to face challenges and hardships.
