Kite Runner is worth reading novel. It narrates a painful, emotional, and captivating story to its readers. Khaled Hosseini writes this. He was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, and moved to the United States in 1980. Kite Runner is his first novel, which has remained an international bestseller. It contains 340 pages and  25 lessons. The novel was published in 2003. His other well-known books are “A Thousand Splendid Suns,” “And the Mountains Echoed”, and a small essay “, “The Sea Prayers”.

This novel displays life in Afghanistan before the invasion of the USSR. It shows how life was calm and peaceful. Everybody could walk on the sides of the city, hang out with friends and run behind the kites. After USSR invaded Afghanistan, everything was ruined, and people’s lives became miserable.

Moreover, the novel has three major characters, Amir: the hero of the book, Agha Sahib: the father of Amir, and Hassan. Hassan, Amir’s best friend, works at their home as a servant. [Spoiler alert] He (Hassan) is also the illegitimate son of Agha Sahb and half-brother of Amir, but Amir is unaware of this truth. 

The series of events depicted in the story are emotional and unforgettable.

The Soviet-Afghan War forced Amir and his Baba to leave the country, and they went to America; in addition,  Amir completed his education and married. He leads a happy life there. After some years, Agha Sahib dies of cancer. During these years, Amir misses Hassan, their friendship and childhood memories.

After few years, Amir receives a call from Rahim Khan, who has remained a good friend of his father and is like a father figure to Amir. Rahim Khan asks Amir to visit Pakistan. A few days later, Amir arrives in Pakistan and meets with severely ill Rahim. Rahim tells him the story, that Hassan is his half-brother but is also dead by now. He (Hassan) has a kid named Sohrab, who is in Afghanistan. Amir decides to bring Sohbrab back and goes through different life-threatening situations; however, he excels in bringing Sohrab back. Finally, he takes Sohrab with him to America. 

The author has wonderfully jotted down the story. He depicts the life of Afghanistan before and after the invasion of the USSR. The series of events depicted in the story are emotional and unforgettable. The story completely engages the reader from the beginning till the end. This is a must-read novel.
